Synthesis, Properties, and Photovoltaic Characteristics of Fluoranthenedione-containing Nonfullerene Acceptors for Organic Solar Cells

The progress of organic solar cells (OSCs) largely depends on the development nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) based electron-accepting π-conjugated compounds. Therefore, creation its building unit is important to tune properties and increase OSC performance. In this contribution, a new unit, fluoranthenedione (FDO), was designed by extending π-conjugation representative indene-1,3-dione (IDO) framework. compound (FL-FDO) composed thiophene-linked fluorene (FL) as central FDO terminal units synthesized. Compared corresponding IDO-containing NFAs, introduction led red-shifted absorption increased frontier orbital energy levels. OSCs FL-FDO poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) donor showed improved power conversion efficiency, compared P3HT/FL-IDO-based devices. These results indicate that has potential act promising NFAs.
